Dear McLaughlin Middle School Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

In response to many reasonable requests by parents, I have consulted with the District Office regarding students bringing liquids into school. Starting immediately the policy is as follows;

Students are not to bring containers with liquids in them that are not sealed. Juice boxes, cartons, and pouches that come in as part of their lunch and are sealed are acceptable. Sealed bottles of water are acceptable. Special circumstances articulated in a parent note or medical note will be honored.

Sadly, we have had instances of students bringing alcohol and other compromised liquids into school such as water that have been infused with potentially dangerous ingredients. These liquids were shared with unknowing students and the potential for harm was very real. I apologize for any confusion and appreciate the frustration on behalf of families whose students would never think to bring inappropriate liquids into school. We are trying to keep all of our students safe.

Respectfully William Krantz

Principal
