Today Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s Executive Order:

“I support controlling our borders and strengthening the vetting process for those wishing to come to the United State of America. It is imperative for the safety of our country and our community, but it must be implemented fairly and with clarity of process and rules.

“I am concerned with the haste in which this order was implemented and the resulting chaos and confusion. Individuals who are here legally should be able to travel to and from the United States legally no matter where they are from. These individuals have rights that need to be respected and should not be discriminated against under any circumstance.

“Manchester has a very vibrant refugee community and we have welcomed individuals and families for many years from many different countries seeking a better life and opportunity for their families. We have worked diligently, and with great success, to make the refugee community feel welcome and that will never change.

“America is a melting pot and we are a welcoming and respectful nation. Manchester is no different. As a country and a community we should never discriminate based on religion and race. Here in the city discrimination will never be tolerated.”
