MANCHESTER, NH – Robert Pariseau, a former Ward 9 Alderman who served during the 1980s and again in the 1990s, until 2002, died at his home in Florida.

“Today the city of Manchester mourns the loss of longtime Ward 9 Alderman Robert “Bob” Pariseau. Alderman Pariseau served as the Ward 9 Alderman from 1980-1984 and from 1992-2002. During his tenure on the Board of Alderman, Bob Pariseau worked with south-end residents and the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport on soundproofing and neighborhood issues, as the airport – and the area – experienced unprecedented growth. On behalf of the Board of Mayor of Aldermen we extend our deepest condolences to the Pariseau family.”

The news came shortly after word that another former Alderman, State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, was found dead in his apartment Monday morning. News of the passing of both these former city leaders prompted the following remembrance by David Scannell:

“Two of Manchester’s greatest political characters in recent years died within hours of each other today. Steve Vaillancourt and Bob Pariseau sat next to each other as aldermen for a time, and I sat behind them when I worked in the mayor’s office. No one was more passionate about his beliefs than Alderman Vaillancourt, and Alderman Pariseau was one of the funniest politicians I have ever known. It was a pleasure to watch the sparring between the two from my unique perspective – stuff the cameras and mikes did not pick up. While they were not exactly Adams and Jefferson, two political giants who died on the same day, they gave Statler and Waldorf a run for their money. May they both rest in peace.

We’ll provide more information, including funeral arrangements and services, once it’s available.
