MANCHESTER, NH – A Massachusetts woman was arrested Oct. 6, charged with driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident on Granite Street.
On October 6, 2015 just before 6 p.m., Manchester Police Officer Andrew Choi responded to the area of Granite Street and South Main Street for a report of a hit-and-run accident. Officer Choi spoke with the victim and witnesses to the accident. The victim reported that he was stopped in traffic on Granite Street. The vehicle in front of him, a black Volkswagen with a Massachusetts license plate, had rolled back into his vehicle causing damage to the front license plate. Both drivers exited their vehicles to view the damage. The driver of the Volkswagen, later identified as Maria V. Feliz, 40, of Methuen, Mass., refused to cooperate or provide her information to the victim, subsequently driving away toward Bedford.
Bedford police received a call that this same Volkswagen was now in the Bedford/Hannaford lot preparing to leave and head back into Manchester. The vehicle was stopped by Bedford Police in Manchester.
Police say Feliz displayed signs of being under the influence. She refused to exit her vehicle and/or comply with lawful orders. Feliz had locked the door. When Officer Choi reached in to unlock her door, Feliz began to repeatedly strike the officer’s hand. As officers attempted to remove her from the vehicle, Feliz began to struggle and resist arrest. Feliz had to be physically removed from the vehicle at which time she struck and scratched at the officers. Feliz continued to struggle and resist during the arrest, transport and booking process. Feliz refused to cooperate with the booking process and was subsequently transported to Valley Street Jail.
Feliz was charged with conduct after an accident, DWI, simple assault and resisting. She was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on Wednesday October 7, 2015.
