MANCHESTER, NH — A porch fire Thursday evening on Maryland Avenue caused extensive damage.
First arriving crews encountered heavy fire on the side of a 2½-story residence at 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 22.
Fire had traveled from the porch area into the second-floor apartment. The crew from Engine 10Â knocked down the exterior fire and then advanced a line to the second floor. Additional crews arrived to establish water supply and ventilation. The fire was contained to the second-floor apartment; however, the unit suffered extensive damage. The first-floor unit also sustained water damage.

A free-standing barn on the property sustained exterior damage due to residual heat.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at about $150,000, according to District Chief James Michael.
