Manchester’s chief of police is one of two candidates still in the running to become the new Somerville, Mass., police chief.

According to a story in Somerville Patch, two other candidates, Michael Cabral, Somerville Police deputy chief of support, and Thomas Wydra, Hamden (Connecticut) Police chief, are no longer being considered for the position.

In addition to Mara, the other candidate is David Fallon, currently serving as Somerville Police deputy chief of operations, is a former captain, lieutenant, sergeant and patrolman with the department and security police with the U.S. Air Force.

The elimination process will continue with site visists for both Mara and Fallon. A new chief is expected to be named when Somerville Board of Aldermen meet  on August 28.

Former Somerville  Chief Thomas Pasquarello stepped down officially on Dec. 2, 2013, and Charlie Femino has been serving as acting chief since Dec. 1, 2013.
