MANCHESTER, N.H. – Manchester Police have arrested a woman who alleged that her neighbor assaulted her.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to 75 Prospect St. after 20-year-old Christie Benoit said a neighbor had broken down her door, punched her and scratched her.

Inside the apartment, police found couch cushions on the floor, a pushed-aside coffee table, a broken glass plate and what appeared to be blood splattered throughout the apartment. Benoit also reported a bloody nose and a black eye.

After examination, police determined that the red substance was not blood, but a substance used in conjunction with Halloween costumes. Additionally, it was determined that make up was used to create an appearance of a black eye.

Benoit was charged with alleged falsification of physical evidence and giving a false report to law enforcement. She is scheduled to appear in Hillsborough Superior Court on Aug. 22.

Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
