Manchester Police hire former WMUR reporter Heather Hamel as public information officer

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester Police Department has hired its first civilian Public Information Officer.

Heather Hamel comes to the department with 20-plus years of media experience. She worked as a reporter at WMUR from 2005 until 2019 where she covered a wide range of stories around the city.

Her background also includes television reporting experience in Charleston, SC, as well as Plattsburgh, NY, and White River Junction, VT. Despite her travels, Heather did begin her media career in New Hampshire as a News Director for WKXL radio in Concord. She is a New Englander, born and raised in Rhode Island.

“I believe I not only can handle media inquiries, but also shed a positive light on all the good the police department is doing and continues to do, ” Hamel said. “I hope to showcase their successes and give the citizens of Manchester a better understanding of their dedication to city, and the hard work they do everyday.”
