PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monarchs (67 pts.) open a two-game weekend series with the Stingrays atop the North Division by six points over the Reading Royals (61 pts.), and four points behind the Florida Everblades for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Monarchs and Brampton Beast would still be slated to face-off in the North Division Semifinals if the season ended today.

ROUGH ROAD

With the 4-3 overtime loss to Greenville last night, Manchester’s winless streak on the road was extended to six games. The streak dates back to another 4-3 overtime loss suffered on Jan. 25 at the hands of the Norfolk Admirals. The six games in a row without a win on the road is tied for the second-worst active streak in the league, trailing only the Elmira Jackals, who sit at nine winless games in a row on the road.

SLOWING DOWN FLICK

South Carolina’s Rob Flick has a point in 11 consecutive home games since Dec. 10. Flick has 18 points through the 11 games, including 13 goals. Flick’s streak is tied for the second-longest active home-point streak in the league with Florida’s John McCarron (11 games, 17 points) and trails only Brendan O’Donnell of Florida who has scored a point in 13 consecutive home games.

SPECIAL TEAMS STORY

Tonight’s game features the league’s top power-play unit and the number two penalty kill. Manchester enters the game with a 24.4% success rate on the power play, tied with the Adirondack Thunder (24.4%). South Carolina kills penalties at an 85.2% rate on the season, trailing only Greenville at 85.6%. In the first three games these teams played to begin the month of February, the Stingrays took only three penalties and successfully killed all three.

OVERTIME STRUGGLES

Manchester has played in 14 games that have not been decided in regulation this season and in those games, the team has come away with only five wins. The Monarchs have taken four overtime wins and a lone shootout victory, compared to five overtime and four shootout losses (.357 winning percentage).

BETTER OFFENSE OR BETTER DEFENSE?

South Carolina enters tonight’s game with the ECHL’s best goals against average at 2.80, while the Monarchs 3rd ranked offense averages 3.90 goals per game. In the three-game series played in Manchester, the Monarchs offense prevailed, scoring 12 goals in games on the way to securing five out of six points.
