Manchester man killed in crash on I-93 in Andover, Mass.

Police say speed may have been a factor.

ANDOVER, MASS. – A Manchester man was killed in a crash in Andover Tuesday.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. June 13, 2017, troopers from the State Police barracks in Andover responded to a report of a crash involving a Massachusetts DOT help van tow truck and a car on Route 93 southbound, prior to Exit 44, in Andover, which resulted in the death of the operator.

e o9nnctPreliminary investigation by Trooper Jared Clemenzi of the Andover Barracks indicates that a 2009 Ford Focus was traveling on Route 93 southbound when it rear-ended a Massachusetts DOT help van flatbed tow truck in the left travel lane. The help van was assisting with a minor crash in the left lane of the highway.

The operator of the Focus, Shannon Jackson, 27, of Manchester, NH, was transported to Boston Medical Center by Lifeflight where he was pronounced dead.  The operator of the help van was uninjured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation but speed is believed to be a factor.

Trooper Clemenzi is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Also assisting on scene were members of Andover Fire and EMS, Methuen Rescue and Massachusetts DOT.
