MANCHESTER, NH — As April winds down, the first week in May brings the Hippo de Mayo Taco Challenge on May 5 – all the details here – and Mother’s Day on May 8. Don’t get caught without plans for Mom. Many restaurants have already put out their special menus and are taking reservations.
This is a big deal. On Monday The Phantom Gourmet was in the Queen City filming at The Gyro Spot. This Elm Street eatery, which serves classic Greek dishes like avgolemono (chicken lemon soup), dolmades, and several varieties of gyro, will be featured on an upcoming episode. Stay tuned for the date.
New brunch spot. LaBelle Winery, voted Yankee Magazine’s 2016 Editor’s Choice for Best Winery in New England, is now serving an al fresco Sunday brunch. To make a reservation, call (603) 672-9898.
Quick lunch option on Elm Street. Finesse Pastries offers a made-to-order panini boxed lunch ($9.95) that includes the sandwich, a drink, chips and two chocolate chip cookies. Call 603-232-6592 to order ahead.
More lunch options. Gale Motor Co. Eatery is now open for lunch 11:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Look for salads, sandwiches and small plates like the Cuban egg roll with yellow mustard dip ($3).
Ice cream makes everything better. Granite State Candy Shoppe serves up homemade ice cream, but do you know they now have cones hand dipped and covered in crumbled candy? The ice cream flavors vary, but typically includes apple pie, burgundy chocolate chip, coconut snowflake, and salted caramel, along with the classics.
Buck a shuck. Bedford Village Inn is now serving $1 oysters on the Patio every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Don’t miss out. Middle Branch Farm, a CSA that distributes at Brookside Church in Manchester still has shares for spring and summer, but they are going fast. All the details are here.
Eat, drink and be merry. On April 28 The Foundry is hosting a five-course beer dinner with Henniker Brewing Co. The evening will feature five elegant courses paired with five delicious brews.
