Man with ‘golf ball’ sized bag of fentanyl in his mouth overdoses, arrested

MANCHESTER, NH – A Massachusetts man was arrested after an apparent fentanyl overdose early Thursday morning.

At about 2 a.m. a concerned citizen contacted police to report a man, possibly intoxicated, walking in the area of Auburn Street between Beech and Union streets Officers responded within minutes and observed a man matching the description given by the caller, on the ground convulsing and foaming at the mouth from what appeared to be an opiate-induced overdose.

The man, later identified as Louis Martinez, 38, of Dorchester, Mass., was treated by AMR ambulance personnel and loaded into the ambulance. Martinez spit a golf ball-sized plastic bag from his mouth while inside of the ambulance. Officers seized the plastic bag and found it to contain 7.7 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl. Martinez was charged with possession of controlled drug. He remains hospitalized.
