MANCHESTER, NH – Police are seeking the public’s help in finding Matthew Emerson, 45, last known to reside at 47 Old Town Road, Hill, NH, for allegedly grabbing a purse from a shopping cart of an 82-year-old woman on Monday at the Elm Street Market Basket.

At 2:45 p.m., the victim was conducting business at the Market Basket service desk. Emerson was standing near her and watching as she placed her purse into the shopping cart and began to exit the store. Emerson allegedly ran by her, grabbing her purse from the shopping cart. He continued to run across the parking lot toward Elm Street. Witnesses tried to chase Emerson down, losing sight of him in the Valley Street Cemetery.

A manager from Market Basket recognized the man and knew him by name through previous contacts. Emerson also tried to return meat products he had stolen earlier in the day in an attempt to deceive the store. The store security footage and identity information provided by the manager led officers to positively identify the suspect as Emerson.

He is wanted for attempted felony theft by deception; felony theft; and felony falsifying physical evidence.

If you know Emerson’s whereabouts, please call the Manchester Police Department at 603-668-8711 or you can remain anonymous by leaving a tip via the Manchester Crime Line or calling in at 603-624-4040.
