GOFFSTOWN, NH – On Monday February 20, 2017 at 10:24 a.m., the Goffstown Police received a call reporting a residential burglary in progress on Hillcrest Road. A woman arrived home to find a car in her driveway that subsequently left the scene prior to the police arriving.

There were signs of forcible entry and indications that a second person fled the house on foot. Responding officers quickly contained the scene and a track using a police dog was started. The dog tracked from the rear of the residence establishing a direction of travel for the suspect.

Officers were directed to that area where an officer discovered a man who emerged from the woods onto Paige Hill Road. The man, identified as Robert G. Smith Jr., 23, of Goffstown, was immediately taken into custody without incident. He had in his possession jewelry, electronics, and several other items from the house.

Smith was taken into custody and charged with one count of burglary, a felony, and was held on $10,000 cash-only bail. He will be arraigned in the 9th Circuit District Court – Goffstown on Thursday, February 21, 2017.

Further investigation led police to New Boston where the vehicle involved was located. The driver of that vehicle has been identified and the investigation into that person’s involvement is ongoing.
