Officer Jonathan Makara was patrolling the area of the Pericles Democratic Club, 127 Spruce St., around 1 a.m. March 4 and witnessed a fight involving two men.

One of the men was allegedly beating another man who was on the ground.

Officer Makara attempted to stop the fight, but as he approached, one of the men fled on foot.

Officer Makera chased the suspect, later identified as Davelle Broadus, 29, of Manchester, for several blocks before he was apprehended.

Several officers arrived on scene at the Pericles Club and located a 30-year-old man bleeding profusely from his abdomen, who was losing consciousness, police said.

Police Sgt. Richard Brown, Officers Mike Caron and Ken Brunini all took part in administering first aid to the victim who was transported to a local hospital and received treatment for multiple stab wounds.

He is still hospitalized and being treated for his serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and it is unknown if the Broadus was actually responsible for the stabbing.

He is charged with resisting arrest and was placed on a 72-hour hold for a probation/parole violation.

Broadus was set to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on March 4, 2015. Additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
