MANCHESTER, NH – On Wednesday July 26th at approximately 6 a.m. Officer Kevin Shields spoke with the clerk at Hans Food Mart who reported that a man came into the store carrying two bags of tools and asked him if he was interested in buying any. The clerk declined and the subject made a purchase. While the clerk was looking away he heard an item land on the floor and he suspected the man was trying to steal an item at the counter. He ordered the man to leave the store. At that point, the clerk realized his cell phone had been stolen, which was caught on the store camera. The description of the alleged thief was provided to officers.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., Officer Ryan Hardy while working a paid uniform construction detail on Maple Street, saw a man fitting the description of the Hans Food Mart theft still wearing the same clothing and carrying the bags of tools as described. The suspect was identified as David Vega, 32, of 315 Cedar St., Apt. #6, Manchester.

Officers located a business card attached to the various tools inside of the bags. The owner was contacted and it was discovered that he’d reported the tools stolen from his truck during the overnight or early morning hours.

Vega is currently out on probation and so he was placed on a 72-hour hold by his probation officer. Vega will be arraigned in the 9th Circuit District Manchester to answer to the charge of felony theft by unauthorized taking.
