Man finds himself trapped on Eversource grounds after alleged copper theft

blotterMANCHESTER, NH – At approximately 3:45 a.m. Manchester Police responded to Eversource, the South Manchester Station, for a call about someone actively stealing copper wires. When police arrived they made contact with a man identified Dennis Behrens, 46, of Manchester. When he saw police he threw a couple of things into the woods and started to run. Behrens ended up being trapped behind the gate. An Eversource technician unlocked the gate and Behrens was taken into custody.

Through a canine search, police located bolt cutters and two bundles of copper wire in the woods. The cost estimate of the theft and damage is about $2,000. Behrens was charged with criminal trespass, theft by unauthorized taking, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, and falsifying evidence. Behrens is scheduled to be in Hillsborough Superior Court- North Sept. 6, 2019, at 1 p.m.

Subjects of police blotter reports are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
