MANCHESTER, NH –Police arrested Matthew Duval, 40, accused of getting into an in-service AMR ambulance parked outside a Lake Avenue residence where EMTs were with a patient and moving it.

Officer Cody Healy responded to 359 Lake Avenue at 6:05 p.m. on Dec. 13  for a report of a man trying to steal an ambulance. Upon arrival, he spoke with multiple firefighters and AMR workers who stated a man was seen inside of the ambulance as they were tending to a patient inside of the Lake Avenue home.

The firefighters and AMR workers were at the Lake Avenue residence for a medical call when they heard the “beeping” sound of the ambulance as it was backing up. They observed a man inside the ambulance as it proceeded to move approximately 20 feet forward from where it was parked. They exited the home and confronted the man inside of the driver’s seat.

The officer spoke with the man, later identified as Duval, and determined he had in fact moved the ambulance based on eyewitness statements. The officer also noticed Duval had left his personal vehicle running and unattended in the travel lane so he was charged with disorderly conduct. He was also charged with a second count of disorderly conduct for interfering with a firefighting operation. Lastly, he was charged with unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle.

Duval was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on January 18, 2016.
