Man faces 2 first-degree assault charges in connection with two separate stabbings

MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police have arrested Jonathan Vargas, 31, ( no home address) and charged him with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of felon in possession of a deadly weapon. Vargas is a suspect in two stabbings that happened in the city in the past 30 days.

On August 19, 2019, around 9:50 p.m. officers responded to 320 Union St. for a report of a stabbing. A 27-year-old man was in the street bleeding from the neck. Upon closer examination it was determined the victim had been stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital.

On September 12, 2019 at approximately 2 a.m., police were flagged down by a 27-year-old man who reported being stabbed in front of 385 Union Street. The victim had a laceration on his lower back. He too was taken to the hospital.

Witness descriptions of the suspect were similar in both incidents and through their investigation, Manchester Police made the connection to Vargas in both crimes.

Vargas was arraigned in Hillsborough Superior Court – North on the above charges and is still being held, pending another hearing.
