MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police Sgt. Brian Cosio was working a DWI Special Enforcement Patrol on February 11, 2018 at approximately 12:15 a.m. when an alleged drunk driver rear-ended his cruiser on South Willow Street.

Sergeant Cosio stopped his cruiser at the traffic light on South Willow Street (southbound lane) at Jobin Drive when he noticed a vehicle approaching his fully marked police car. He noted the car was operating erratically prior to striking his cruiser, but was unable to move his car before impact was made.

Sgt. Cosio called for another unit as he checked on the driver, Matthew Krahling, 30, of Manchester. Officer Mark Aquino of the Manchester Police Traffic Unit responded to the crash to investigate the incident. Officer Aquino determined Krahling was impaired, so he placed him into custody without incident. Krahling was charged with operating under the influence of liquor (B) and released on a summons.

He is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on February 27, 2018.

Krahling caused damage to the front of his 2003 Honda Accord and the rear of the police cruiser, which is currently out of service as a result of the crash. The Honda was towed from the scene while the police car was driven to fleet services. There were no reported injuries.
