Man charged with reckless conduct after firing shots into the air outside Prospect Street apartment

MANCHESTER, NH – Police arrested Andrew Purington, 21, of 21 Prospect St., Apt. 4, for reckless conduct, after police say he fired several shots from a firearm into the air Tuesday night.

On March 14, 2017 at approximately 9 p.m., Manchester Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of Prospect Street for the report of several gun shots heard. Upon arrival, information was relayed to officers that a man, later identified as Purington, was seen firing several shots in the air, then was immediately seen walking into a third-floor apartment at 21 Prospect St.

Responding units set up a perimeter around the apartment house. MPD dispatch was able to make phone contact with Purington and a woman who were inside the third-floor apartment, No. 4. Both parties agreed to exit the apartment. Once they were outside they were detained by officers. The apartment was then cleared and no injured parties were located. Five shell casings were located by Officers outside of the address.

During the initial investigation, Officers conducted several on scene interviews. Officers learned that Purington was in fact the person who had fired off approximately four rounds from a pistol up into the air.

He was taken into custody and charged with reckless conduct. Bail was set at $5,000 cash or surety. He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on March 15, 2017.
