Man charged with attempted murder, robbery after beating of store clerk

MANCHESTER, NH — A man was arrested Feb. 21 and charged with attempted murder following a brutal beating of a store clerk during a robbery Sunday morning on Maple Street.

Gedeon Karasi, 22, no fixed address, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and robbery.

Police responded to 61 Market, located at 61 Maple Street at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 21, for a panic alarm. The 22-year-old clerk told police he was attacked by a robber, who struck him several times with a baseball bat and also punched him with closed fists. The clerk sustained head and facial injuries and was taken to the Elliot Hospital where he was treated for a laceration to the chin and multiple contusions. 

During the robbery, the clerk was able to activate the panic alarm which alerted police to the scene. Officer Ryan Brandreth arrived on scene as the the robber, later identified as Karasi, fled the store. A brief foot pursuit ensued before Karasi was apprehended by Officer Brandreth’s police dog partner Colt, and taken into custody.

Karasi was also treated at a local hospital for a dog bite, police said.
