MANCHESTER, NH  – Styfus Green, 21, of Manchester, was arrested March 12 after a scuffle with police and several security officers outside Elliot Hospital.

At about 10:40 p.m. Thursday night Manchester Police Officer Chris Day responded to a call for an unconscious man in the Elliot Hospital parking garage. Initial reports indicated the unconscious man was the victim of an assault.

Officer Chris Day and Security Supervisor Officer Darren Minch located Green standing outside of the parking garage. He was with his brother Ralph Green, 25, also of Manchester. Both appeared to be intoxicated, according to police.

Police were unable to locate the alleged unconscious man and believed the two brothers may have been involved in the altercation.

Officer Day spoke to Styfus Green in an attempt to gain information about the possible assault, but Green allegedly refused to answer questions or comply with the investigation. Police said Green became “extremely hostile” while Officer Day spoke with his brother Ralph.

This prompted Styfus Green to become loud and boisterous with the officer. He was asked repeatedly to refrain from swearing and also asked to remove his hands from his pockets. Styfus Green refused both verbal commands, so Officer Day attempted to remove his hands. Officer Day engaged in a struggle with Green and both he and Green ended up on the ground.

Security Officer Minch assisted in restraining Green who remained combative. Security Officer Robert Marcoux arrived on scene and he too assisted in subduing Green.

Green allegedly kicked MPD Transport Officer James Pittman and Security Officer Minch during the altercation and was charged with simple assault. Green was also charged with resisting arrest and resisting detention.

He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court Manchester on March 13.
