MANCHESTER, NH – Studio 550 is revamping the gallery to carry more local artists and to have new work and a public reception each month. In addition, receptions will include a hands-on activity or demonstration and a limited-edition hand-made mementos, themed to the exhibition.

All receptions are free to the public. Studio 550 will continue to carry the work of professional potters from around the country, but hopes this new model will make local arts more lovable.

Receptions are scheduled for First Fridays from 5:30-7 p.m., except for months when there is a Trolley Tour. On those months, the reception would be on Trolley Arts nights from 5-8 p.m. The next two receptions are described below.

January 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Keith Demanche, Solo Artist-in-Residence Exhibition titled “Perhaps…”

Keith Demanche, a graphic designer by day and co-owner of KSD Creative, has been a resident artist at Studio 550 since the summer of 2015. The exhibit of his most recent pastel paintings inspired by the lighting at dusk will be on display until February 2.  To get hands-on during the reception, the artist has selected pieces from the exhibit and rendered them as “coloring book” pictures for the public to color in and put their own spin on the scenes! The limited edition memento will be miniature hand-made books with the quote that inspired the name of the exhibition bound into the stitching. The first 15 visitors at the reception will receive one.

February 5, 5:30-7 p.m. Great Mail Day: Artist envelopes you can mail!

This is an exhibition of card-sized envelopes that have been designed and embellished by New England artists. All envelopes will have space for both return and mailing addresses, and all will be available for purchase. Whether people are gifting cards for Valentine’s Day or Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17), these artist envelopes will make for a unique and memorable gift.  Visitors to the reception will be invited to design and decorate their own envelope and may even hang their art in the gallery. The limited edition memento from the reception will be an ornate origami envelope. The exhibit will be on display February 5-27.
