MANCHESTER, NH – In a battle of Manchester’s two NHIAA Division I high schools, Central defeated Memorial on Saturday afternoon, 47-40.

Both teams gave up 48 points against their first week foes, with Central falling on the road against Exeter and Memorial losing to defending state champion Bedford.

According to accounts from the Union Leader’s Roger Brown, Memorial quarterback completed 16 of 33 passes, getting 372 yards through the air and 62 yards on the ground. Central quarterback Alex Hawkom also completed 16 passes, throwing for 244 yards and running for 128 yards on his own.

With the loss, Memorial joins Concord in the basement of the NHIAA Division I North Conference, with Central in the middle of the pack within the conference behind the still undefeated Bedford and Goffstown squads.

Bedford leads all Division I teams with 106 points over their first two games, with Bedford and Goffstown heading to the Seacoast to face the East Conference’s remaining undefeated teams, Winnacunnet and Exeter respectively.

The Little Green will host their home opener at Spaulding under the lights on Friday at Gill Stadium. Memorial will head to Portsmouth for a contest against the 1-1 Clippers.
