Last week a class action lawsuit was filed accusing California winemakers of knowingly producing wine contaminated with arsenic in levels exceeding California regulations.

USA Today reported that testing was done at a Denver lab where 1,306 different types of wine were evaluated. They found 83 wines with  “dangerously elevated” levels of inorganic arsenic. Two other labs confirmed the results. A list of the wines with the lowest levels of arsenic was posted on the lab’s website.

According to the lawsuit, some wines contained arsenic levels that exceeded the safe daily intake limit by 500 percent.

The Wine Institute has countered that the lawsuit is “false and misleading,” issuing a statement that said, in part, “Arsenic is prevalent in the natural environment in air, soil and water, and in food. There is no research that shows that the amounts found in wine pose a health risk to consumers.”

For those who enjoy a class of wine or two, below is the list of wines. You can learn more about the lawsuit here, at a site created by the litigating attorneys.
