MANCHESTER, NH – Families in Transition – New Horizons will hold its 29th Annual 5k Walk Against Hunger on Sunday, May 19, starting and ending in Veterans Park in Manchester, NH. This year’s walk route has changed to include walking past nine of the organizations 23 properties. Money raised from the walk will support the organization and its efforts of providing hunger relief, emergency shelter, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a pound of ground coffee for the soup kitchen and shelter at New Horizons. Day of registrations are welcome or people can register in advance at support.fitnh/walk. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 12:00 p.m. Attendees can expect a fun afternoon to include music, food trucks, and event emcee, Ioanis, from 96.5 The Mill . Approximately 1,000 people are expected to participate.

“We are adding a whole lot of fun to the event this year,” said Maureen Beauregard, President of Families in Transition-New Horizons (FIT-NH). “Changing the route so people can see some of our buildings, many of which are unmarked, was important to us as many people have no idea how many people we provide housing, food, and services too. We’ll have lots of people cheering on the walkers at each building with signage, noise makers, balloons, and more.”

“NH Healthy Families is thrilled to partner with Families in Transition-New Horizons to support the range of essential services that they provide to our members and so many individuals and families throughout New Hampshire,” said Jennifer Weigand, Plan President & CEO of NH Healthy Families. “The Walk Against Hunger draws critical awareness to the cause of homelessness and housing insecurity and we are proud to serve as premier sponsor for this event.”

The Walk Against Hunger is presented by the Cogswell Benevolent Trust and is one of Families in Transition – New Horizons signature fundraising events. The walk is part of a three part 5K Series which is sponsored by NH Healthy Families. The Community Partner Sponsor is Spectrum Marketing.
