MANCHESTER, N.H. – One lucky 12-year-old was signed to a contract with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats earlier this week, even if it was only for a day.

Laconia’s Matthew Beaupre signed a one-day contract with the Fisher Cats on Tuesday, complete with an introductory press conference with Fisher Cats General Manager Jim Flavin and Fisher Cats Manager Mike Mordecai.

Beaupre was selected out of dozens of submissions for his charitable work in the Lakes Region. He was a middle school finalist for the Spirit of Hope and Kindness awards, and also was recognized as a community hero for his volunteer work helping neighbors shovel their driveways, organizing cookouts for first-responders and giving out snacks to those in need.

“Not a lot of people want to (volunteer),” said Beaupre. “I do it because I still get to hang out my friends, but (also) help the community.”

Beaupre is also a baseball fan, serving as an equipment manager for his middle school team, playing on several other teams in recent years.

A full video of the press conference is available on the Fisher Cats’ YouTube Channel.

He can also type over 100 words a minute on a good day.
