MANCHESTER, N.H. – No matter who was on the roster, or what the home arena was named, or even what league they were in or whether streaming over the radio or the internet, when it came to Manchester Monarchs hockey, Ken Cail was there.

That era is now over as Cail retires as “The Voice of the Monarchs” after 17 seasons, finishing with 1,425 broadcasted games.

Cail was inducted in the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010, also winning the New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year award twice and the Golden Mike Award three times.

During the 2017-’18, his voice served as a backdrop for every Monarchs home game on the ECHL.TV network.

He will be replaced by Monarchs Public Relations Coordinator Parker Wheeler. Wheeler worked alongside Cail for the past two seasons in the Monarchs booth as the color commentator, and was previously the play-by-play broadcaster for the University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team from 2012 to 2016.

On top of that, he's a licensed notary and licensed to sell property, casualty and life insurance, he's been a USSF trained youth soccer and futsal referee for the past six years and he can name over 60 national flags in under 60 seconds according to that flag game app he has on his phone, which makes sense because he also has a bachelor's degree in geography (like Michael Jordan). He can also type over 100 words a minute on a good day.
