The Manchester Food Co­-op (MFC) Board of Directors seeks an ambitious and energetic leader with strong retail management skills to spearhead the opening of a full­service grocery store and resource center with an emphasis on healthy foods, goods and services at fair prices from local sources when possible in Manchester, NH

The MFC’s mission has inspired strong community support since our first public meeting in 2009, and in early September 2014, we proudly celebrated the 1,000 Member-Owners milestone. We expect to operate a full­service grocery store with approximately 13,000 square feet of sales area. Our co­-op is directed by an eleven member Board of Directors, and employs policy governance for its leadership structure.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate person dedicated to the co­-op movement, and local food and goods to make a difference and local impact by helping the MFC open our doors, grow into an economically sustainable consumer co­-op, and become a positive and influential resource center in the community.

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:
* Successful management experience in a retail food store setting, preferably in a local foods, cooperative model
* Proven experience in supervision, business planning, development and administration with a minimum of 5 years experience
* Thorough knowledge in sales management including purchasing, marketing and sales planning
* Experience in all phases of retail operations
* Proven ability to lead and motivate others to gain cooperation
* Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
* Demonstrated high integrity and commitment to ethical business practices
* Proven team-building experience to create a rewarding work environment for staff and excellent services for our Member-Owners and customers
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of educational and working experience

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
* Structuring, hiring, training, directing, coaching and evaluating an effective management team and staff
* Developing and adhering to an annual budget (Familiarity with a Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Statement required)
* Leading successful sales planning, pricing, profit margin management and inventory control
* Communicating with and reporting to the Board of Directors
* Ability to work with lenders
* Organizing the MFC’s operations effectively and efficiently to ensure profitability
* Complying with all applicable laws: licenses, permits, health regulations, workers compensation, tax filings, and employment requirements
* Assessing of Member-Owner and patron needs and desires to increase membership and participation
* Building and fostering relationships with local farmers, producers, vendors, suppliers, Member-Owners and the local community
