Jack C. Turner, 84: Air Force veteran who flew around the world, beloved husband, dad, grandfather

MANCHESTER, NH – Jack C. Turner, 84, of Manchester (formerly of Candia from 1961 through 2015), passed away at the Elliot Hospital on March 10, 2017

He was born in Colebrook on May 19, 1932, the son of Orton and Juliette (Dube) Turner. Jack was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1950. He was a United States Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict and was also a member of NH Air National Guard for 20 years, stationed at Grenier Field and then Pease AFB.

Screen Shot 2017 03 14 at 3.11.14 PM e1489519050363Throughout his military career he worked in aircraft maintenance and was a flight navigator traveling all over the world. He then worked for Anheuser-Busch Merrimack in the fleet maintenance department until his retirement in 1993.

He was an actively involved member of the American Legion Post 91 in Candia for 45 years where he was a past Post Commander and served as Chaplain for the last 22 years. He loved ten-pin bowling and actively participated in the Monday night NHANG league since the mid 1960s. He was also an avid pool player, especially enjoying his nights out at the Auburn Pitts and his Thursday nights at Richard’s with all the guys. His other interests included horseshoes, dancing, cribbage, bid whist and the occasional backyard mechanics.

Family members include the love of his life, wife Barbara (Mandigo) Turner, whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this April; a son, Kevin Turner of Candia; a daughter, Juliette Pepin and her husband Gerard of Manchester; four grandchildren, Brayden and Daniel with wife Jennifer Pepin and Samantha and Kimberlyn Turner; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Charles Pepin; a sister, Shirley Lack and husband Gordon of Oklahoma; two half-sisters, Anita D’Amato and Sherry Drumm both of Mass.; nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his two furry kids, Billy and Annie.

Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St. Manchester on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held on Friday May 19 at 1 p.m. in Holbrook Cemetery, Candia.
