CONCORD, NH – A city man with a long criminal history – already incarcerated on other charges –  has been named as the suspect in a June 2016 shooting. John Gebo, 31, was charged Sept. 6 with second-degree murder in connection with a June 1, 2016 shooting in a parking lot behind Spruce Street that left one man dead and a woman injured.

Gebo is accused of shooting Hans R. Odige, 35, of Manchester, who died at the scene. Gebo was also charged with first-degree assault for wounding Ashley Thompson in the same shooting incident.

In an incident that happened the following week, Gebo was arrested by Manchester Police June 9, charged with “felon in possession of a firearm,” among other charges, for allegedly firing four bullets into a residence on West Street, which police say was captured on video.

Gebo has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2000, including a conviction for possession of a deadly weapon in 2009, for which he was sentenced to three and a half to seven years in state prison, and a 2016 incident in Derry in which he was charged with two counts of theft and a single charge of burglary. In that incident, Gebo was accused of breaking into a home to burglarize it when he was caught in the act, after the homeowner arrived with her young children while he was still there.

On June 1, 2016, Manchester police officers responded to the report of a shooting in the parking lot at the back of a building located at 135 Spruce St. in Manchester. When officers arrived, they discovered that Ashley Thompson, 25, had been shot and suffered a non-life threatening leg wound. Nearby, the police found Hans R. Odige, 35, of Manchester, deceased on the ground.

An autopsy later confirmed that Mr. Odige died as a result of a single gunshot wound.

After an intensive investigation, the Manchester Police Department identified Gebo as a suspect in the shooting. He was charged in Hillsborough County Superior Court – Northern District.

Gebo is currently incarcerated on other criminal charges. He is expected to appear at Hillsborough County Superior Court North on Sept. 13 to answer the charges.
