CONCORD, NH — The NH Divisions of Forests and Lands have issued a warning for increased fire danger for most of New Hampshire beginning April 23 based on dry weather conditions and gusty winds.
According to the National Weather Service, the potential for rapid fire spread across New Hampshire is due to low dewpoint temperatures that contribute to a very low relative humidity of around 15 percent.
Additionally, winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts around 20 mph will likely lead to conditions favorable for rapid fire spread where surface cover such as fine grasses, leaves, and other brush are dry.
Annually, brush fire season begins in April, once snow cover is gone.
Residents should take precautions when it comes to burning leaves or extinguishing smoking materials.
Precipitation in the forecast for Thursday night, including rain and sleet, into Friday should reduce any fire danger, according to the NH Fire Rangers.
