Impaired driver on wild ride takes out undercover cop car, others

MANCHESTER, NH  —An out-of-control driver hit several vehicles on South Willow Monday afternoon, including an undercover police Jeep.

Just before 4 p.m. reports were made of a woman driving a black Audi north on South Willow Street, hitting vehicles in front of Burger King, continuing north striking additional cars. According to witnesses the driver of the Audi at one point had a red vehicle on the hood of her car and continued to push it up South Willow as she struck more cars.

Manchester Fire crews and AMR were called as reports came in of a seven-car accident with injury. Upon arrival, they had vehicles spread from the Citizens bank to the area of U-Haul.
The driver of the red car was transported with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the black Audi was checked by EMS and refused transport. After a short conversation with MPD she was given a roadside sobriety test, shortly after she was handcuffed and transported by the MPD wagon.

She was identified Monday night as Denise Pumphret of Manchester, who was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs A total of seven vehicles were struck during the collision.

One vehicle which was struck was an MPD undercover Street Crime unit vehicle occupied by on-duty officers, who were not injured.
Most vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
