UPDATE: 10:30 p.m. State Police report I-93 is reopened with a post on Facebook that read: “I-93 northbound in Concord has been reopened to all traffic as of 10:30 pm. The sinkhole is history.”
Concord Patch reports that a man from Chichester, allegedly driving under the influence, dodged the safety cones and made his way to the construction site where he then “berated” the construction workers for slowing him down.
Thomas Conner, 55, was arrested and transported to Troop D where he submitted to a breathalyzer test, which allegedly showed he was driving with an alcohol content three times the legal limit of .08., according to State Police.
UPDATE 4 p.m. NH DOT reported the problem had been isolated:
“Emergency repair work is underway on the I-93 sinkhole that has closed the northbound lanes in Concord. No estimate yet on when the road will be reopened. Part of the repair work will be to seal up with concrete a City of Concord storm drain (pictured left) that runs under the highway at that location. The sinkhole is estimated to be 20 feet deep, 12 feet long, and 14 feet wide. The repair work is being done by Audley Construction, of Bow. Turnpikes and District 5 crews are assisting by hauling materials and doing traffic control.” – NHDOT
The pipe that runs under I-93 in Concord was filled with concrete and the sinkhole filled with gravel. Once compacted, it would be paved, according to officials. By 7 p.m. the sinkhole was patched with 256 cubic yards of fill and concrete. (One DOT dump truck carries 11 cubic yards.) The opening of the drain near Concord’s downtown is slated to be filled on Thursday.

CONCORD, NH – State Police issued the following traffic alert at 12:15 p.m. due to a reported sinkhole:
“The highway is closed on Interstate 93 Northbound between exit 13 and exit 14 at this time. Traffic is being diverted off Exit 13 at this time. Motorists heading through this area should seek an alternate routes.”
As of 2:45 p.m. State Police were asking motorists to avoid highway completely in that area due to heavy traffic.
Traffic is being diverted off the highway at exit 13. DOT is onsite assessing the situation. According to DOT Public Information Officer, Bill Boynton, it will take a minimum of three hours to fix.
