I need to register to vote

To register, you will need to provide documents that prove your identity, age, and citizenship.

  1. Go to the City Clerk office  at City Hall between 8 AM and 5 PM on Friday, September 7 or Monday, September 10.
  2. If you need to register on Election Day, Tuesday, September 11, you can do so at your polling place.
  3. Bring with you proof of identity:  a valid driver’s license with current Manchester address, non-driver’s ID, current passport, military ID.
  4. If you do not have proof of identity, age, or citizenship, you can complete and sign an affidavit in front of an election official.
  5. Bring with you proof of domicile such as a valid NH vehicle registration, utility bill (with applicant’s name on it, i.e. Telephone, Gas, Electric), school document showing you live in campus housing, rental or lease agreement in your name, tax bills, medical bills, pay stubs showing your Manchester address or other monthly bills, or postmarked mail within the last 30 days.
  6. If you do not bring proof of domicile, , you will need to sign an affidavit before you can vote. You will need to check off one of the following two options on the affidavit:  A.) You have a document that will prove your domicile but did not bring it with you, and you agree to deliver or mail the document to the town or city clerk within 10 days following the election (or 30 days in some areas – ask election officials); or B.) You are not aware of any documents that will prove your domicile, and understand that city officials will take steps to confirm that you are domiciled where you claim. Although by law you could be subject to criminal or civil penalties for failing to deliver the documents that prove your domicile, the Superior Court has temporarily ordered that the State cannot enforce these penalties.
  7. If you are a naturalized citizen you will also need to provide proof of your citizenship or you will be asked to complete an affidavit.

Even if you do not have documents proving your domicile on Election Day, or within 30 days of the election, you will be able to register to vote and you will be able to vote on Election Day. The rules have been published by the City Clerk. You can phone the City Clerk at (603) 624-6455 if you have any questions.
