MANCHESTER, NH – Break out your white bell bottoms and leisure suits and get ready to relive your disco days on Oct. 7, as Bee Gee’s premiere tribute band, Stayin’ Alive Canada, swings into town for a one-night stand on the Palace Theatre stage.
Or in other words, for as long as this band is around, the legacy of Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb will be stayin’ alive.
Vocalists Tony Mattina, Todd Sherman, and George Manz bring their Bee Gees A-game to the stage with their own spin on the hits that propelled the singing brothers to international fame during their heyday in the 1970s, and beyond.
For the record, there’s a huge difference between a tribute band and, say, an Elvis impersonator.
Instead of completely visually and audibly recreating the look and moves of a popular singer, a tribute band allows professional singers – who also happen to be dedicated fans – to recreate the feeling and vibe of their favorite bands, all while putting their own spin on the hits that have become the soundtrack to a generation.
In this instance, Stayin’ Alive is a tribute band comprised of solid musicians in their own rights – Tony Mattina (Barry) has performed in numerous other tribute bands, earning him a special place in the Toronto music scene. George Manz (Maurice) learned piano by ear at age 5 and continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Todd Sharman (Robin) has also performed in many other tribute acts, and is a familiar face in the Toronto music scene.
Historically, The Bee Gees first appeared as a pop group in 1958, quickly rising to stardom in the late 1960s and the early 1970s. Their distinct vocal style set them apart, and positioned them to eventually sell more than 220 million records worldwide, as well earning them a coveted induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Stayin’ Alive is simply on a musical mission to makes certain those familiar harmonies resonate for future generations in a show that will wow both young and old alike, whether you’re already a dedicated Bee Gees fan, or only recognize the music from your mother’s favorite oldies radio station.
Expect to hear all the hits, like “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep is Your Love,” “Night Fever,” and many more, all penned by the brothers Gibb themselves!
The Tribute Series is made possible by the generosity of the following partners: NH Prostate Cancer Coalition; Chill Cares; Prestige Auto Body; Ron’s Toy Shop; British Beer Company; and Rock 101.
