HOOKSETT, NH — A situation that unfolded at Cawley Middle School on Wednesday has been peacefully resolved by police, after a student was identified as the person who sent a threat via email using another student’s email account from a school laptop computer.

After gathering further information, police determined there was no danger to students or staff.

Police were called to the middle school at approximately 8:45 a.m. on April 3 after a report of a threatening e-mail was received. Statements made in the e-mail threatened harm to students and staff at the school.

Once Hooksett Police arrived they discovered that the student whose e-mail account was used to send the threat was not responsible for sending the threats. The student’s e-mail account was accessed by another student within the school, police said.

Hooksett Detectives continued their investigation and found that the IP address was from within the school and that the e-mail was sent from a Cawley Middle School laptop computer. Further investigation led detectives to a student that they feel was responsible for sending the e-mail. The student was not in possession of any weapons.

Hooksett Police Chief Janet Bouchard said while police investigated the threat, the school “acted appropriately” by calling for a secure campus at all three Hooksett schools.  Police officers were stationed inside of the school to ensure safety during the investigation.

“We understand that situations like these are worrisome and daunting for parents and residents. The Hooksett Police Department takes all threats very seriously. We want to thank the staff at all three schools for working collaboratively with us and also thank the parents for their patience and trust in us,” Bouchard said.
