MANCHESTER, NH – Parker-Varney Elementary School has entered a $200,000 national education contest hoping for a chance at one of the 13 prizes that will be awarded to recognize the best in K-12 innovation.

In addition to completing an online application for the fourth annual Follett Challenge, Parker-Varney also submitted a short video to promote its innovative program that teaches students the 21st century skills they need to be prepared for life.

Ten prizes, valued at $8,000 each, are in the “People’s Choice” category and will be based solely on how many votes applicants have received from the public for their videos. Video voting began January 19 and ends on January 30. Parker-Varney’s video is now posted on the Follett Challenge website. Click here to view and vote via email or Facebook (Facebook is easiest!)

“We hope our community will support us by viewing our video and voting for our submission,” said Amy Allen, principal at Parker-Varney. “Participating in the Follett Challenge recognizes our educators for the great job they are doing and, should we win, reward them with resources to do more.”Screenshot 2015-01-21 at 5.51.51 PM

Supporters can voter one time every day through January 30. Not only are the public’s votes significant in the video voting portion of the contest, but they also play a role in the overall contest results — 20 percent of each school’s final score is based on the number of votes generated for its video.

Three Semifinalists and a Grand Prize winner will be chosen. The Grand Prize winner will be selected among the Semifinalists, and the 10 “People’s Choice” winners will be chosen based on the highest number of votes received. Winners will receive the cash value equivalent of Follett products and services and will choose products and services offered from Follett School Solutions, Follett’s K-12 division.

Grand Prize: $30,000
Semifinalist High School: $30,000
Semifinalist Middle School: $30,000
Semifinalist Elementary School: $30,000
10 People’s Choice Video Winners: $8,000 each

Winners will be announced February 13, 2015.
