Haz-Mat team responds to UPS packaging center in Nashua for chemical vapors

NASHUA, NH – Nashua Fire and Rescue respond to the UPS plant on Whipple Street in Nashua at about 7 a.m. for reports of chemical vapors and multiple people experiencing sickness.

 
Crews set up a for a hazmat situation and, due to the number of people showing symptoms, elevated the response to a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident, which brought in ambulances from surrounding towns to respond to the work place. Mass Casualty Incidents are classified by the number of potential patients. A Class 1 is the lowest level (five to 10 victims).

WMUR reports officials suspect nitric acid was leaking from a package. Several people have been hospitalized with “minor symptoms.”
