MANCHESTER, NH – Ryan Souza, 36, was faces drug charges after he resisted arrest on Oct. 18 during an investigation by police into shots fired in his neighborhood.
At about 6 p.m. police responded to a report of shots fire in the area of 345 Dubuque St. Upon arrival, officers located a spent shell casing and confirmed shots had been fired in the area prior to their arrival.
Detectives arrived and spoke with witnesses in the area as they processed the scene for evidence. At this time they continue to investigate the shooting incident.
As Officer Ryan Hiele continued to seek witnesses in connection to the shooting he briefly detained Souza in the area of 360 Dubuque St. Detectives were notified based on the fact they believed Souza may have been involved in the shooting incident. A subsequent search of Souza’s property revealed he was in possession of five “fingers” of heroin, or 57.65 grams and a small quantity of cocaine (2.86 grams) along with other drug paraphernalia. As officers attempted to place Souza in handcuffs, he fled on foot.
Officers pursued Souza and Officer Tyler Shaw apprehended Souza in the area of Wayne Street and Cartier streets. Police described Souza as non-compliant during the arrest and so they used a Tazer to subdue him, police said.
Souza was taken into custody and charged with: resisting arrest/detention and possession of a controlled drug. He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court on October 20, 2014.
Souza is not being charged with the firearm incident, police said.
