MANCHESTER, NHCatholic Medical Center, Huggins Hospital and Monadnock Community Hospital are moving forward with a proposed affiliation after clearing a key milestone.  The Director of Charitable Trusts Unit, part of the Office of the Attorney General, has completed his review and determined the proposed affiliation meets the requirements of state law.

image005The affiliation will result in the formation of a new organization, GraniteOne Health, which will enable the hospitals to grow their clinical relationships, build economies of scale and improve value to patients.

“This is an exciting moment for health care in New Hampshire,” said CMC President and CEO, Joseph Pepe, MD.  “No hospital can be expected to ‘go it alone’ anymore. With GraniteOne Health, we are forming a new collaboration to navigate the changing marketplace, joining together to improve access to care and provide greater value for our patients and communities.”

image003Each hospital will have representation on the GraniteOne Health Board of Trustees, which will develop the strategic direction and initiatives for the system. The individual hospitals will continue a strong local and community focus by maintaining their local boards, identity, and assets.

image001“Monadnock Community Hospital is highly regarded for its presence in the community,” said MCH President and CEO Cynthia McGuire.  “This affiliation strengthens us for the future, by empowering us to provide our patients greater access to highly-specialized care, close to home. It reinforces our commitment to the families of the Monadnock region.”

Patients at Huggins Hospital will also benefit from the improved availability of specialty services that smaller, independent hospitals are finding increasingly difficult to offer.

“There are a number of economic, regulatory, and other pressures prompting hospitals to operate differently while improving quality for patients,” said Huggins Hospital President and CEO Jeremy Roberge.  “Under GraniteOne Health, we’ll draw on each other’s resources to achieve that and, at the same time, we’ll continue to focus on the specific health needs of our local communities.”

The affiliation is expected to be finalized by the end of December, pending approval from the Antitrust Bureau, with GraniteOne Health in place and operational in January 2017.

Information about GraniteOne Health can be found on each hospital’s website, as well as on the website for GraniteOne Health (www.graniteonehealth.org).
