The gates went up in April, but many resident were not satisfied with the Gold Street gate system.

MANCHESTER, NH – The relocation of the Gold Street gate near the new Wal-Mart got underway July 13.

The gate installed originally on Gold street is being moved 30 feet West, to allow residents who were cut-off to now access the lower end of Gold Street. The intersection of Gold and Bradley Streets will be closed to public travel while crews are working and will reopen in the evening. Local and emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. The street closure will continue on and off for several days depending on the work schedule.

Alderman Barbara Shaw said the work should take four to five days at the most.

“As soon as it’s done, we’ll give it two or three weeks and then we’ll have another traffic count on President and Beech Hill, to see how traffic is flowing,” says Shaw.

As part of the original agreement, the city will revisit the traffic situation within a year of Walmart’s opening, says Shaw.

“This fall we’ll be looking at the total picture again, and see if we leave things the way they are or make more changes. There’s nothing definite in the plans other than moving the gate and doing a traffic count to see how much relief it gives President Road.
