GOFFSTOWN, NH — Last Dec. 8, an African-American family found a partially burnt Confederate flag inside their mailbox and immediately called the police.

An investigation was opened by police and also involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Police Chief Robert C. Browne III.  Numerous interviews were conducted along with extensive follow-up, including involvement of the FBI “due to racial implications,” according to police, but investigators were unable to develop any substantial leads or identify a suspect.

Browne says the resident wants to remain anonymous because he has school-age children but, at the same time, wanted the community to be aware of the incident.

Police now are asking for the public’s help in seeking information to develop leads and identify a suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Scott Rousseau at 497-4858.
