MANCHESTER, NH — For the second year, Girls at Work, Inc. is hosting an evening of hilarious comic storytelling with top-billed comedians, including New Hampshire Magazine’s “Remarkable Women of the Arts” award winner Cindy Pierce; Moth and Extempo Story Slam winner Kevin Gallagher; and Sue Schmidt, 2015 winner of the New England Public Radio Valley Voices Grand Slam.

Come out March 19 for this inspirational and high-spirited event at New Hampshire Institute of Art, 148 Concord St., Manchester. Showtime is 6 p.m.

The evening event raises funds to support Girls At Work, Inc’s power-tool building programs for elementary and middle school girls throughout New Hampshire and New England.

New Hampshire Magazine’s “Remarkable Women of the Arts” award winner Cindy Pierce is a self-proclaimed ‘incident magnet,’ who frequently finds herself embroiled in awkward or embarrassing situations which she turns into stories of humor and learning.

Cindy became involved with Girls at Work after seeing her daughter transformed by the power of building.

“She and her group felt pretty darn capable after they built a picnic table and an Adirondack chair,” she said. “The girls were encouraged to work together to figure out each step rather than wait for rescue when it got challenging. Every opportunity to work through setbacks and discomfort gives our girls resilience and courage they can use in other parts of life.”

Studies have shown that 20 minutes with Sue Schmidt, therapist-turned-comic, is both cheaper and more effective than years of actual therapy.

Kevin Gallagher is a proud Irish-American thoroughbred, which makes his stories a mix of blarney & Yankee. As a former third-grade teacher, stockbroker, investment banker, waiter, nonprofit treasurer, & professor, he has had numerous opportunities to be both the fool and to see the foolishness that is utterly human.

He learned the importance of empowered women from his mom who single-handedly raised him and his two younger sisters.

“Any time there’s a more confident, capable woman in the world, she is less likely to let oppression stop her. Girls at Work is an empowering program, and we need to encourage girls to be all that they can be.”

Doors open March 19 for this event at New Hampshire Institute of Art, 148 Concord St., Manchester at 5:30 p.m, for chocolate tasting and a wine bar. Showtime 6 p.m. General admission ticket: $25 online ($30 at the door). VIP ticket for early entry and a seat at the front: $50. Reserved table for 8: $400.
