MANCHESTER, NHDoubleMidnight Comics is celebrating Free Comic Book Day on May 2 at both its Concord or Manchester locations.

Special guests include Babs Tarr (Batgirl) and Katie Cook (My Little Pony), as well as a variety of local guest artists! The fun starts at 10 a.m. (though the earlier you come, you’ll get your chance at door prizes!) and ends at Spare Time in Manchester for the after party! Special Guests:
image(1)Babs Tarr is the current Batgirl artist, having started working on the series on issue #35. Alongside writers Cameron Stewart and Brandon Fletcher, their new design for Batgirl has gotten a lot of attention and new fans! Babs will be signing throughout the day and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to score a sketch!

image(2)Katie Cook is the creator of the hit web comic, Gronk (not associated to a certain New England Patriot) and is well known for her work on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, as both writer and cover artist for the series! Katie has also worked on th comic series Fraggle Rock and as both artist and writer for Jim Henson’s The Storyteller! Katie will be on hand throughout the day, signing and sketching for attendees!

At the Manchester store there will be a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth. Look for lots of characters representing several cosplay grouScreenshot 2015-05-01 at 5.52.19 PMps, including members of the 501st New England Garrison, New England Brethren of Pirates and Ghostbusters of NH!

Also this year there will be lots of  prizes collected from different events included in the raffle such as books and posters signed by comic artists, writers and celebrities, gift certificate, free entry to Granitecon and more. Some items include a signed Game of Thrones poster book by The Mountain, signed Avengers script from the 2012 Granitecon by Jess Harnell, Rob Paulsen, Jim Cummings, Richard Horvitz and Quinton Flynn, signed comics, and an original Godzilla sketch by Mark Texeira.

Door Prizes for the following:
  • First 10 People in Line get the “You’re First” bag, filled with various number 1’s from the past few years, including Howard the Duck #1!
  • First 25 People in Line get the DMC Variant Package, filled with a mix of exclusive covers from the store and Granitecon!
  • First 50 People in Line get a DMC Grab Bag!
  • First 100 People in Line get a bag with a comic. That comic might be a signed comic, a variant, or just a regular comic! Make sure you look inside as well! A couple lucky people will get a store gift certificate!

↵Additionally, the first 40 people in line will get this exclusive commemorative patch.

Annual FCBD Costume Contest, which is the largest in the US, will again be offering outstanding prizes. The Best Costume, top three male and female costumes will receive free passes to some of the biggest conventions in the Northeast. Those conventions include MASSive Comic Con, Granite State Comic Con, Hartford Comic Con and Rhode Island Comic Con. Best costume will also get a $200 Store Gift Certificate, trophy and a plaque at the store. Kids can win prizes too, including prize packs filled with comics!

Entry: FREE unless you want to bowl! If you want to bowl, it’s $10 and you’ll get to bowl three games and get shoes to use!

Entertainment:
  • Lanes will be open for bowling! $10 gets you 3 games and shoes
  • Live music will be playing in the bar throughout the night
  • Arcade so you can play some fun games
  • Themed drinks to make the comic theme keep going!
  • Raffles to win some sweet prizes!
