Fugitive with Manchester ties arrested in Claremont

CONCORD, NH – Efforts by investigators paid off  at around noon-time on June 8 in Claremont when members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested this week’s “Fugitive of the Week.” Gerald “Jay” Swanson, 46, was last known to reside in Manchester, and was being sought by the U.S. Marshals on Federal Supervised Release Warrant, stemming from an original conviction and sentence for a 2006 case involving cocaine sales. 

As part of the U.S. Marshals fugitive investigation, Swanson was featured as this week’s “Fugitive of the Week.” 

On June 8, investigators developed information that led the Task Force to Claremont. Assisted by the Claremont Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police, the Task Force tracked Swanson down to a family member’s residence, where Swanson was located and arrested without incident. Once Swanson was in custody, he was transported to the U.S. District Court in Concord for his initial court appearance on the outstanding arrest warrant. 

This arrest was made by members of the N.H. Joint Fugitive Task Force including; the New Hampshire State Police, Strafford & Rockingham County Sheriff’s Offices, Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), along with officers from the Claremont Police Department.

Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 6,340 arrests (Updated as of 05/03/2016).These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 7 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
