MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester VA hosted the first of two “Veterans Free Farmers Market” for the season on August 30, 2017.  Veterans who attended were given an opportunity to make selections from an extensive assortment of fruits and vegetables.

Local farms will again be at Manchester VA again for the season’s final “Veterans Free Farmers Market” on September 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. outside the Mountain Entrance at the Manchester VA located at 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH

The following farms participated by making generous donations of produce to support our Veterans.

  • Farm & Fresh Fruit Market in Manchester
  • Brookside Farm Stand in Pelham, NH
  • Countryside Farm Stand in Dracut, Mass.
  • Lawndale Farms in Tyngsborough, Mass.
  • Lull Farm in Hollis, NH
  • Sunnycrest Farm in Londonderry, NH

United Veterans Services made a donation to supplement produce from our local farms.

“Healthy eating is something we all need assistance with, and should take seriously,” said Alfred Montoya, acting director Manchester VA.  “As we make our Way Forward, embracing and supporting our Community Partners is essential.  This seasonal market for Veterans is another shining example of New Hampshire’s commitment to those who serve.”

At the market, Maureen Foltz, Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition and Food Services, Manchester VA, hosted a “Tasting Tent”  featuring a heart-healthy cabbage salad and directions.  The recipe is not only simple to make, but only requires you have a few ingredients on hand.
