MANCHESTER — Breathe New Hampshire will present a free COPD Wellness Workshop on Wednesday, November 16 from 10 a.m. until noon at 145 Hollis Street, Unit C, in Manchester.

November is COPD Awareness Month.

COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The workshop will focus on how people with the disease can live better through improved nutrition, medication compliance, and energy conservation, and it’s open to those with COPD and their caregivers. Light refreshments will be served.

COPD is the third leading killer of adults in the U.S. and a major cause of disability. Symptoms include shortness of breath, chronic coughing and wheezing, and the inability to take a deep breath. While there is no cure, early intervention and treatment may help manage the disease and improve quality of life. In New Hampshire, 85,000 people have been diagnosed with the disease. Register by calling 669-2411, or emailing copd@breathenh.org. Please RSVP by November 9.

Established in 1916, Breathe New Hampshire is celebrating a century as the only public health agency in the state dedicated solely to lung health. Breathe NH’s mission is to eliminate lung disease and improve the quality of life for those with lung disease, from asthma to COPD. See www.breathenh.org/COPD for much more on managing COPD.
