MANCHESTER, NH – Planning the future needs of seniors – whether it’s for yourself, a parent or a loved one – can be overwhelming. Critical decisions are often made at a moment’s notice, in the face of hospitalization, illness, loss of a spouse or another major life-altering event.

This Spring, Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is helping you fully prepare for what ahead, with weekly series of FREE community events on a wide range of relevant topics for most seniors – from financial and estate planning to navigating Medicare and the growing spectrum of healthcare services.

May 9th • Estate Planning – Attorney Melissa Zani of SKlawyers, will provide an explanation of Estate Planning, including the importance of having all of the legal documents put into place now to protect your legacy for your family and loved ones when you pass away.

May 16th • Home Health/Hospices Services – Denise Rivard, LPN, BA, Nurse Liaison from Home Health & Hospice will explain the differences between home health care services and hospice care, how to access each service, misconceptions regarding hospice care, and the role of Medicare coverage and limitations with each service.

May 23rd • Pre-Paid Funerals – None of us have a choice in how we enter this world Michele Phaneuf Plasz of Phaneuf Funeral Homes will be discussing an array of funeral and cremation options so you can make these important decisions ahead of time. Medicaid – Join Mary Roberge, Business Office Assistant at Mt Carmel for a discussion of Medicaid as it relates to the long term care setting, the application process, and commonly encountered misconceptions regarding this benefit.

June 6th • Reverse Mortgage – Kathy Burns of Reverse Mortgage Funding, LLC will discuss the features of a reverse mortgage and how it can be a useful option for healthcare planning. Downsizing your home – Jazz Barnette, Jazz Personal Management, Christian Scott, Realtor, Keller Williams Realty-Metropolitan will provide tips and strategies that can make this a smooth and successful transition.

June 13th • Long-Term Care Insurance – Michael Cianci, Saybrus Partners will describe these financial products, how they have changed over the years to become a meaningful resource for healthcare planning, and the unique aspects of each type.

June 20th • Medicare – Alice Young from the Paige Insurance Agency will provide information regarding Medicare coverage, how to access this benefit, the various products available to consumers and understanding how to choose the one that meets.

June 27th • Elder Abuse – Rachel Lakin, Administrator for NH Adult Protective Services.
